Yesterday and today, Year 6 have been at Castle Rushen High School for their two taster days! Mr Palmer and Mrs Strand have had the exciting opportunity to shadow them for the two days...
Thursday morning, the newly labelled Year 7 cohort congregated in the school hall awaiting the news of their tutor, tutor groups, houses, and their timetables for the two days they are here! Eagerly awaiting the news, they sat as Mr Winstanley, Mr Kay and Mrs Kneen addressed them as a group for the first time... lots of excited faces around the hall! The children head off out of the hall with their tutors off to their first lesson, where they got to spend some time with their tutor and get to know the other children in their groups.
Lessons! During the course of the morning, the children got to experience a wide range of lessons... from maths, to history... from music to geography! It was lovely to see the children working together to find their way around the building and to their next lessons.
Lunch! I don't think I have seen so many excited faces as they all walked into the hall and breathe in to smell the dinner options! Either a chicken dinner, curry or jacket potato! With a cake/jelly and a drink! Mr Palmer was definitely happy!
Afternoon! On the afternoon of their first day, the children all got changed and prepared themselves for an afternoon of PE! Mr Caldwell introduced himself and the rest of his team, and off they went for their afternoon of games! The boys were introduced to rugby (with the help of the CRHS first XI rugby team) and the girls were introduced to rounders (proper rules, not Mr Palmer's...) with the help of some sixth form girls!
Friday morning has started with the children arriving to school, exploring and awaiting the first bell of the day. That bell signifies that they should be going to find their tutor rooms ready for morning registration. The children then spent some time speaking to their tutor, other children and also the school student 'anti-bullying ambassadors' about how they're feeling about the transition to high school! Lots of positive feedback so far!
Now, another day of lessons: music, history, geography, RE, drama, french, art, science, english!
We are sure they will sleep well this weekend...
Mr Palmer & Mrs Strand :)
